“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
What do you discuss typically?
Take a minute and do this exercise: Think about the success of the people in your life who are always talking about other people. Now think of the success of the people who talk about current events. And finally, think of who you know who talks about ideas. Which one of these groups are most successful?
Now I will totally skip the people who talk about people aspect of the former first lady’s quote since I believe you recognize that people who are constantly talking about other people – more commonly referred to as gossiping – are rarely in the successful group.
What I also know is the most successful entrepreneurs in the world rarely watch TV meaning events are rarely a top priority for them.
The successful entrepreneurs focus their energy on growing their minds and their knowledge through reading books and discussing the ideas contained in them… and more importantly, how to use those ideas to create more in their lives and businesses. This is one reason I read up to 5 books at any one time. I continue to grow my mind with new ideas or new ways to look at topics. I use these ideas and the discussions which come from them as fuel for my business creativity.
Now knowing you are here to be a Maverick and create the success you want, which one of these groups do you want to be a part of for your life?
