“Keep your friends for friendship, but work with the skilled and competent” – Robert Greene
Who do you look to help you in your business? Many look to family and friends when they get a business started. Sometimes this is because they have an interest in creating the same thing you do. For some, it’s because you want them to be on this journey with you. Other times it’s because they are cheap labor when starting out.
The biggest challenge in creating your success is having the correct people by your side. This means hiring, joint venturing, partnering and working with the most qualified person for the what needs to be accomplished.
The Test
My test in any business is asking, “If I had all the resources in the world, would this be the person I chose to do this task?”
When the answer is yes, then keep on moving forward with them.
If not, leave them in the friend category and continue being friends. I have seen too many people lose friendships because they went into business with someone unqualified to be the right person for the position.
If the answer was no, go find the most skilled and competent person to be in business with you. If you were looking for a surgeon to operate on you, would you choose a friend who said they could do it or would you find the most qualified person you could?
Why should you accept anything less for your business health now?
