“Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” -John D. Rockefeller
Do you give up the good to go for the great in your life? For many, this is a challenge. They finally created some success and are feeling comfortable in their life.
This feeling comfortable is an entrepreneur’s worst pitfall. It feels good. They accomplished the principle targets they set out to achieve at the beginning of their journey.
Is this good all you were meant to accomplish… or is this just one step on the stairway to greatness?
Some of my students can find it hard to step away from the good they already found to go after the great. They don’t want to give up what they have to attempt to get to something awesome. For them, the security of the good is hard to move beyond, especially if they might have to give it up to get to the next level.
Remember, you were put here to be great. It is your whole purpose for being here. By accepting the good, you are cheating yourself and all those around you of encountering and being a part of your greatness.
Think of where would be now if Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would have settled for being good computer programmers instead of innovative, envelope pushing, seekers of greatness. The Macbook I’m writing this on would never have happened without the desire to be great instead of just good. Steve would have stopped long before this computer ever became an idea.
This is just one example of someone who accepted letting go of the good to do something great. Greatness affects many positively. Are you ready to be great? Then let’s set new, even more ambitious principle targets to strive for on the next step up the greatness staircase. I’ll be here beside you as you climb.
Do It Different!
